WASHINGTON, Oct 26 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Diesel fuel prices in the United States have dropped by nearly 18 cents per gallon since reaching an all-time high in September, but remain approximately 73 per cent higher than a year ago, according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA), as reviewed by RIA Novosti.

AAA statistics show that the average price of diesel in the US reached a record US$6.52 per gallon in September. By October 26, it had fallen to US$6.34, a decline of about 2.7 per cent from its peak.

Despite this decrease, US consumers are still paying significantly more for diesel than they were a year ago. In October 2021, a gallon of the fuel cost an average of US$3.66. The price has therefore risen by US$2.68 per gallon, an increase of approximately 73 per cent, over the past year.

On Oct 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. The US president said that an agreement on the supply of diesel fuel from Russia was reached during the phone call and that the US was very pleased to buy Russian diesel.
