BRUSSELS, Oct 26 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Two people were killed as Storm Boelo battered parts of the United Kingdom (UK) with strong winds, heavy rain and flooding, leaving around 90,000 customers without electricity Sunday evening, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.

A 60-year-old man died after being struck by a falling tree near Castle Douglas in Dumfries, Scotland, while a man in his 20s was killed when a tree fell onto his car in north London, Sky News reported, citing authorities.

Two women were also hospitalised after being struck by a falling tree, the report said.

Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland and northern England experienced the worst of the storm, which brought winds reaching 84 miles per hour (135 kilometres per hour) and widespread disruption over the weekend.

According to the Energy Networks Association, around 90,000 customers remained without electricity as of 7 pm local time (1800GMT) Sunday.

Some parts of Scotland recorded rainfall equivalent to around one-third of their average monthly total over the weekend.

The UK Met Office warned of further unsettled weather early this week, with conditions expected to improve Monday before another weather system brings heavy rain and strong winds Tuesday.

A yellow weather warning for strong winds was issued for parts of northern England, Scotland, and northeastern Northern Ireland, effective from 3 am Tuesday until midnight.

Meanwhile, flooding concerns persisted across the UK, with authorities issuing multiple warnings and alerts.

The Environment Agency issued 10 flood warnings and 65 flood alerts in England, while the Scottish Environment Protection Agency reported 10 warnings and 11 alerts.

Natural Resources Wales said nine flood alerts were in place.

Transport services were also severely disrupted, particularly railway networks in Scotland.

Some flights were diverted or cancelled at Leeds Bradford Airport, while fallen trees, damaged road surfaces, and cables on carriageways forced closures on major roads in Scotland.
