Melaka Polls: DAP’s Three New Faces Offer Best Chance To Win All Seven Seats - khoo

MELAKA, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- Melaka DAP chairman Khoo Poay Tiong believes the party’s three new candidates offer its best chance of winning all seven seats allocated to it in the Melaka state election on Nov 14.

The newcomers, announced by Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday, are Jegasilan K in Gadek, Poo Long Suan in Duyong and Jason Tze-Xi Nathan in Pengkalan Batu.

“I want to reiterate that DAP will contest the seven state seats announced by the PH chairman recently. There is therefore no issue of seeking additional seats or being dissatisfied with the allocation.

“We will do our best to defend the four seats we won previously, while working as hard as possible to capture the other three,” he told reporters after purchasing nomination forms for DAP candidates at the Melaka State Election Commission office in Wisma Persekutuan here today.

Khoo said DAP’s candidates this time ranged in age from 31 to 56 and had impressive academic qualifications and skill sets, including candidates with master’s degrees in law and Tamil literature.

On Saturday, Anwar, who is also the Prime Minister, announced the 21 candidates fielded by PH component parties for next month’s Melaka state election.

Besides DAP’s seven, PH component parties Amanah and PKR have been allocated five and nine seats respectively.

DAP is retaining four incumbent assemblymen to defend their respective seats: Kerk Chee Yee in Ayer Keroh, Allex Seah Shoo Chin in Kesidang, Low Chee Leong in Kota Laksamana and Leng Chaun Yen in Banda Hilir.

The Election Commission has set Oct 31 for nomination, Nov 10 for early voting and Nov 14 for polling.
