IPOH, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- Teluk Intan is turning its rich food heritage into a tourism attraction with the launch of the ‘Teluk Intan Food Passport’, an initiative designed to encourage visitors to explore the lower Perak town’s culinary gems while supporting local businesses and strengthening the local tourism economy.
Teluk Intan MP Nga Kor Ming said the passport, which comprises 20 pages for visitors to collect stamps from participating food outlets, offers a fun and interactive way to discover Teluk Intan’s diverse flavours, from traditional favourites to contemporary cafés and local culinary establishments.
Nga, who is also Housing and Local Government Minister, said visitors who completed all 20 pages by collecting the required stamps would be eligible to redeem exclusive merchandise at Teck Kee Foodstuff Enterprise, adding a reward to their culinary adventure.
“To date, the initiative has received encouraging support from local businesses, with more than 18 participating establishments joining the effort to showcase Teluk Intan’s food scene and attract more visitors to the town,” he said in a statement.
Nga officiated the launch of the Teluk Intan Food Passport in Teluk Intan on Saturday, together with Pasir Bedamar assemblyman Woo Kah Leong.
Among the participating outlets and attractions are Kopi Cap Arnab, BSH Enak, Seng Hoe Biscuit, Kafe Xin Asia, Teck Kee Foodstuff Enterprise, Teluk Intan Firefly Marvels River Cruise Park, AHMA Kopi, Hokkaido Puff, Super Gadget Teluk, Anson Hainan Kopitiam, Poh Loong Seafood Restaurant, Zero Bistro, Wang Kee Bah Kut Teh, Uncle Don’s, December Bake & Coffee, Anson Sport Centre, Tech Lab Studio and Kedai Biskut GL.
Nga said that beyond introducing visitors to the town’s culinary offerings, the Teluk Intan Food Passport aims to encourage them to venture beyond familiar tourist spots, discover local businesses and spend more time exploring what the town has to offer.
“By bringing food operators, cafes, restaurants and local attractions together under one initiative, Teluk Intan is positioning its food culture as a valuable tourism asset while creating opportunities for small businesses to gain greater visibility and attract new customers.
“The Teluk Intan Food Passport reflects how creative, community-driven initiatives can transform everyday experiences, such as enjoying a cup of coffee or sampling a local delicacy, into meaningful tourism experiences that benefit both visitors and the local economy,” he said.
