SINGAPORE, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will highlight the importance of regional cooperation specifically through the development of the ASEAN Power Grid in the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2026, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Fadillah, who also serves as the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said stronger energy connectivity among ASEAN nations would facilitate more efficient utilisation of energy resources, while simultaneously enhancing the security and resilience of electricity supplies across the region.
“I view SIEW as a highly meaningful platform for Malaysia to share perspectives, exchange experiences, and strengthen ties with partners from Singapore, ASEAN nations, and the international energy community.
“As we navigate an increasingly challenging global energy landscape, we must ensure that our national energy supply remains secure, stable, and affordable for all while upholding our responsibility to protect the environment and accelerate the transition toward cleaner energy,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Fadillah arrived in Singapore at 6.16 pm today to lead the Malaysian delegation and deliver a keynote address at SIEW 2026 conference, which will take place tomorrow at Marina Bay Sands.
Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore, Datin Paduka Anizan Siti Hajjar Adnin, and the chief executive of Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA), Puah Kok Keong.
During his stay in Singapore, Fadillah is scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Singapore and India, as well as representatives from international energy organisations and companies including the International Energy Agency (IEA), the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Siemens Energy, ACWA Power, Électricité de France (EDF), and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
He expressed hope that these meetings would create further opportunities to exchange ideas, learn from best practices, and explore collaborative ventures that will benefit Malaysia particularly in the development of energy infrastructure and the adoption of new technologies.
“At the same time, we aim to continue bolstering the confidence of international investors and financiers in the potential of Malaysia’s energy sector.
“Strategic investments will not only help develop our national energy industry but also have the potential to generate economic opportunities and support the nation’s long-term growth,” he said.
Fadillah hopes that Malaysia’s participation in SIEW 2026 will yield positive outcomes, strengthen ties with regional partners, and unlock further opportunities for cooperation for the nation.
“God willing, we will continue to move forward together toward an energy system that is more secure, affordable, and sustainable, for the well-being of Malaysians,” he said.
