Interactive Brokers Enables AI Trade On Clients’ Behalf

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- Interactive Brokers has launched a new capability that allows eligible clients authorise connected artificial intelligence (AI) platforms to trade on their behalf across more than 75,000 listed stocks, options and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) worldwide, without approving each order individually.

The capability, IBKR Autonomous Trading, operates within a dedicated AI Partition, which clients fund by transferring money from their main Interactive Brokers account without opening a new account or making an external deposit, according to a statement.

“IBKR Autonomous Trading builds on that approach, allowing clients to define their trading strategies and safeguards while connected AI monitors markets and executes trades within those parameters,” said Interactive Brokers Chief Executive Officer, Milan Galik.

He said the company had used automation for decades to give investors greater access, efficiency and control.

Clients set instructions in natural language, and the AI operates within those instructions, subject to account restrictions and safeguards that the company said are designed to help manage risk. The connected AI can monitor market developments, evaluate opportunities against the client’s criteria and submit orders when those criteria are met.

For example, a client could instruct the AI to trim any holding above 10 per cent of the portfolio back to eight per cent each morning. Another instruction could be to sell covered call options when a holding’s implied volatility reaches a set level.

The capability builds on the company’s existing AI Integration tool. That tool lets clients link their accounts to AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Perplexity to generate trading instructions, which clients must then review and approve.

Interactive Brokers’ other AI tools include AI Screeners, which allows users to search over 70,000 global stocks using natural language. It also offers Investment Themes and Connections, which help users find companies, industries and related securities linked to a theme or stock.

IBKR Autonomous Trading is subject to entity, country, regulatory and account eligibility requirements, and at launch it will carry funding, account and eligibility limits that may change over time. Availability varies by Interactive Brokers affiliate and by the client’s country of residence.
