KLANG, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Government has recognised employers, organisations and individuals for their efforts to promote inclusive employment and sustainable career opportunities for persons with disabilities (PwDs).
The recognition came at the inaugural Selangor Disability Inclusion Awards 2026, organised by the Selangor Disability Action Council (MTOS) and Yayasan Insan Istimewa Selangor (YANIS) at a hotel here last night.
State Executive Councillor for Women's Development and Social Welfare Anfaal Saari said employment opportunities for PwDs should not be measured solely by quotas.
Anfaal, who is also YANIS chairman, said greater emphasis should be placed on workplace quality, career progression and employers' ability to develop the true potential of PwDs.
“These awards reflect the state government's commitment to encouraging more government agencies and private companies to adopt inclusive employment policies.
“Disability-friendly workplaces also help create more flexible and conducive working environments,” she told reporters at the event.
The award ceremony, themed “Recognising Potential, Empowering Inclusivity”, was officiated by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and attended by MTOS chairman Danial Al-Rashid Haron.
Anfaal said 12 awards across four main categories were presented to recognise employers, educational organisations, local authorities and outstanding individuals with disabilities.
She said the Inclusive Employer Award recognised private companies and organisations committed to hiring PwDs and supporting their welfare, while the Inclusivity Personality Award honoured individuals demonstrating outstanding performance, discipline and positive contributions to their organisations.
“The Special Inclusive Local Authority Award recognised local councils providing training, skills development and disability-friendly workplaces.
“And the Special Selangor District Education Office Award honoured district education offices demonstrating best practices in placement, support and inclusive education initiatives in the workplace,” she said.
Anfaal said the state government hoped to establish the awards as an annual event and a benchmark for best practices in social inclusion and equal opportunities.
“The awards recognise employers who challenge stigma and also PwDs who demonstrate that physical or sensory limitations do not prevent them from contributing their talents.
“It also highlights MTOS's important role in implementing the Selangor Disability Policy and its 2026-2030 Action Plan," she said.
