KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Chinese Embassy are exploring ways to expand cooperation between anti-corruption institutions of Malaysia and China through exchange visits and the sharing of knowledge and expertise.

In a statement today, the MACC said the matter was discussed during a meeting between its Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman and outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing at a luncheon at the ambassador’s official residence here yesterday.

The two sides also exchanged views on developments in artificial intelligence (AI), digitalisation and automation, as well as the need to enhance skills to keep pace with technological changes.

“The luncheon provided a platform to exchange views on Malaysia-China relations and explore opportunities to share experiences and foster cooperation between institutions in both countries, while examining approaches that could be considered in line with their respective mandates and institutional needs,” the statement said.

Discussions also covered education, tourism and cultural heritage preservation as areas that could strengthen bilateral ties and mutual understanding between the peoples of Malaysia and China.

The MACC said the meeting took place on Ouyang’s final day in Malaysia after six years as China’s ambassador to the country.

At the luncheon, Abd Halim expressed appreciation for Ouyang’s friendship, support and the strong ties developed during his tenure, as well as the warm welcome extended to MACC delegations.

Also present were MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Mohd Hafaz Nazar, Intelligence Division senior director Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin, Policy, Planning and Research Division director Datuk Rasidah Abdul Karim, Anti-Money Laundering Division director Datuk Norhaizam Muhammad, and Special Operations Division deputy director Datuk Ismajuri Ismail.

The Chinese Embassy was represented by Minister Counsellor Lin Shiguang, Police Counsellor Zhang Weikang, Police Second Secretary Li Xianfeng and Police Third Secretary Shi Longxiang.
