KOTA BHARU, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan state government will continue to strengthen its preparedness for the monsoon season through the coordination of early warning systems, logistical requirements and temporary evacuation centres to ensure the safety and welfare of the people.
Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud said the experience of managing floods every year called for more comprehensive coordination, particularly in terms of logistical preparations and the efficient delivery of aid to victims.
He said the state government was updated on the latest developments and the country’s preparedness for various disaster threats in a recent meeting.
“The meeting also discussed the increasingly worrying haze situation, particularly its impact on public health and the safety of schoolchildren.
“Improvements to the National Haze Action Plan were also discussed to ensure that public health and continuity of education could be managed in a balanced manner,” he said in a post on his official Facebook page after attending the National Disaster Management Council (NADMA) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya recently.
Mohd Nassuruddin said preparations for the Northeast Monsoon, which could bring heavy rain and floods, were also given attention, in addition to the forecast of a Super El Niño phenomenon next year.
He said the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening NADMA’s role, as well as inter-agency cooperation, was crucial to ensure that disaster management is implemented effectively.
“Close coordination between the Federal Government and state government is vital to ensure that every plan is translated into effective action on the ground,” he said.
He said the Kelantan state government would continue to strengthen cooperation with all parties to ensure that the safety, welfare and well-being of the people are safeguarded.
