Cyberjaya's Autonomous Vehicle Testbed Marks Milestone With Driverless Robovan

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- Cyberview Sdn Bhd is strengthening Cyberjaya's position as a testing ground for autonomous mobility, with the deployment of Malaysia's first Level 4 driverless vehicle by a local company on public roads, marking a milestone in the city's technology ecosystem development.

The Level 4 (L4) RoboVan, developed using technology from Zelostech and deployed by Autonomous Logistic Solutions Sdn Bhd (ALS), will undergo a six-month trial along the 22-kilometre (km) Malaysia Autonomous Vehicle (MyAV) testing route in Cyberjaya under mixed-traffic conditions.

Cyberview, the technology hub developer of Cyberjaya, established the testing route in 2020 with an initial length of 7 km before extending it by another 15 km in 2025 to provide a dedicated environment for testing autonomous mobility technologies in real urban settings.

Its chief executive officer Kamarul Ariffin Abdul Samad said the deployment demonstrated the importance of having a dedicated testing environment to help local innovators evaluate advanced technologies under real-world conditions.

“ALS’s fully driverless RoboVan is a proud moment for Cyberjaya. It showcases the capability of local innovators and shows why a dedicated hub where advanced technologies can be tested in real-world conditions matters,” he said in a statement following the launch ceremony.

He said Cyberview would continue to support Malaysian technology development by providing the ecosystem, infrastructure and platforms needed to help innovators scale their solutions.

The RoboVan, launched by Transport Minister Anthony Loke at Transport Expo Asia 2026 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here today, is designed exclusively for goods transportation and operates without a driver or passenger onboard, under remote supervision.

During the trial, ALS will monitor the vehicle’s driving performance, operating hours, distance travelled, trips completed, system interventions and other performance indicators.

The findings are expected to support the development of Malaysia’s autonomous vehicle ecosystem and inform future commercial deployment.

The trial also builds on the establishment of Malaysia’s first dedicated Remote Operations Centre (ROC) for autonomous logistics in Cyberjaya in July, a joint initiative involving ALS, Cyberview and the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec).

The centre provides operational oversight of autonomous vehicles through live video feeds, vehicle telemetry, route status and system diagnostics, supporting the monitoring of vehicles operating on public roads.

Sidec chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping said the trial demonstrated how the operational infrastructure established in Cyberjaya could support a Malaysian company’s deployment of a fully driverless vehicle on public roads.

He said the experience gained from the trial could help inform future national standards and deployment frameworks for autonomous mobility.

The trial follows ALS’s earlier testing activities, which began at a private compound with Pos Malaysia in January, followed by a live demonstration in Shah Alam in June.

ALS, as Zelostech’s strategic Malaysian partner, is responsible for localising the technology and managing its operations in the country.

ALS managing director Alan Chong said the trial would build local capabilities in autonomous vehicle operations, engineering, fleet management and remote supervision.

“For us, this is more than just a licence plate. It's about making autonomous technology a reality in Malaysia, showing that local companies can achieve and build the foundation for the future of autonomous logistics in our country and the region,” he said, as quoted in the same statement.

The company’s longer-term focus is on point-to-point logistics, including the movement of goods between warehouses, logistics hubs, manufacturing facilities, ports and airports.

The trial follows the relevant regulatory approvals under Malaysia’s autonomous vehicle framework, involving engagement with the Transport Ministry, Road Transport Department, Land Public Transport Agency, Digital Ministry and Futurise.
