KOTA BHARU, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- All Kelantan Islamic Foundation (YIK) alumni currently studying in Saudi Arabia are reported safe and continuing their studies as usual despite the tense geopolitical situation in West Asia.

State Education, Higher Education, Green Technology, Digital and Innovation Committee chairman Datuk Wan Roslan Wan Hamat said the state government is constantly monitoring the students' situation and has advised them to remain in contact with the embassy to ensure their safety.

"So far, more than 1,000 YIK alumni are pursuing their studies in the region, including in Jordan, Yemen, Egypt and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). We have stationed three welfare officers there to monitor their safety.

"We are also in constant contact with the students online to keep abreast of current developments. All study sessions are proceeding as usual and the situation is under control," he told reporters during a press conference at the Kota Darulnaim Complex here today.

The media previously reported that 19 people were killed and 364 others injured in attacks by Yemen's Houthi group on airports in Saudi Arabia, including the King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha International Airport.
