KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- Digital transformation in the construction industry must be implemented inclusively to ensure its benefits are enjoyed by all tiers of the industry, especially small and medium contractors, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He said that digitalisation has become a crucial necessity to enhance the efficiency, productivity, and competitiveness of the construction industry, which faces various challenges - particularly in cost management, compliance with material specifications, and completing projects on schedule.

"Digital transformation must be inclusive and benefit all levels of the industry, including G1 to G7 grade contractors, especially small and medium contractors through user-friendly platforms and appropriate support," he said in his speech at the launch of MENARABENA here today.

Nanta said the success of digitalisation also requires a skilled workforce ready to embrace change; therefore, training, guidance, and support for technology adoption must be strengthened to ensure its benefits are felt comprehensively.

He noted that strategic collaboration between the government and the industry is also vital to ensure technological developments yield practical solutions that meet the industry's actual needs.

Meanwhile, Nanta said aspects of quality, standards, and compliance must not be compromised in efforts to expand market access, while the accuracy of product information, clarity of specifications, supplier reliability, and data security must be prioritised to guarantee user confidence.

Speaking to reporters after the event, Nanta said MENARABENA has the potential to boost efficiency in construction industry transactions by facilitating easier access to product information and construction product certification.

"I am informed that with MENARABENA, procedures or processes in construction that previously took about six months can now be shortened to just two to three months.

"...and when we can shorten that process, it will certainly bring greater efficiency and cost savings in everything we manage (construction work)," he said.

MENARABENA is a business-to-business (B2B) digital platform launched by Menara Asia Sdn Bhd in collaboration with CIDB Holdings Bhd to ease access to building materials, streamline procurement processes, and connect industry players with local and international markets.

The platform integrates digital capabilities in procurement, product marketing, delivery coordination, and order tracking, and is open to construction industry players, including G1 to G7 grade contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, and developers.
