Comprehensive Fiqh Understanding Key To Addressing Societal Issues - Perlis Raja Muda

KANGAR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- A comprehensive understanding of fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) is crucial to ensuring that societal issues are addressed wisely, fairly and accurately, in accordance with the Quran and Sunnah.

The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, said such an understanding required consideration of scriptural evidence, the principles underpinning Islamic legal rulings, differing scholarly opinions and contemporary realities.

He said a sound understanding of fiqh was also essential to providing clear, accurate and accessible religious guidance that met contemporary needs, while strengthening Muslims' confidence in practising their faith based on knowledge and wisdom.

“Technological advances and changing times will continue to give rise to new issues that require careful examination from the perspective of fiqh. Therefore, scholarly research, discussions and ijtihad (independent legal reasoning) must be further strengthened to ensure that each issue is addressed based on sound knowledge, robust arguments and an understanding of contemporary realities.

“Society also needs clear, accurate and easily understood explanations of Islamic legal rulings to guide people in their daily lives,” he said when officiating at the 4th Conference of the Council of Nusantara Scholars and this year's Nusantara Scholars' Discourse here last night.

The conference, organised by the Perlis State Mufti Department in collaboration with the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs), carries the theme “The Breadth of Fiqh in Addressing Contemporary Challenges”.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra expressed hope that Perlis would continue to serve as a vibrant and harmonious platform for intellectual discourse, guided by a comprehensive understanding of Islam and a prudent approach.

He also expressed hope that the resolutions adopted at the conference would guide the state administration, religious institutions, educators and the public, while the discussions would be developed into written works, publications and educational programmes to extend their benefits to the wider community.

“I believe that continued efforts to impart accurate and accessible religious knowledge will help nurture a well-informed society capable of evaluating issues maturely and practising Islamic teachings with a deeper understanding,” he said.
