MCMC Strengthens Technical Standards To Improve Essential Services Reliability

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 14 (Bernama) – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will continue working with relevant agencies and industry stakeholders to improve the interoperability of technologies and systems, while supporting safer and more reliable essential services for the public.

In a statement today, it said strengthening technical standards is essential to ensuring that services such as communications, electricity and water supply could operate more safely, reliably and efficiently.

“This is increasingly important as essential services become more dependent on digital technologies and interconnected systems, where disruptions in one system could affect other services and people’s daily lives,” it said.

Against this backdrop, MCMC organised the Seminar on Enabling Intelligent and Resilient Utilities through Standards at the MCMC Centre of Excellence here today in conjunction with World Standards Day 2026.

The seminar also highlighted MCMC’s Framework for Technical Standards Governance, aimed at strengthening the planning, coordination and development of technical standards in the communications and multimedia sector in line with technological advancements and industry needs.

The event brought together representatives from regulatory agencies, standards development organisations, industry players, local authorities and academia to discuss the coordination of technical standards across the communications, energy, water and infrastructure development sectors.
