Batu Pahat Council Offers 118 Prizes Worth RM100,000 To Property Taxpayers

BATU PAHAT, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- A Proton e.MAS 5 Prime electric vehicle (EV) worth more than RM50,000 is the grand prize in a lucky draw organised by the Batu Pahat Municipal Council (MPBP) under its 2026 ‘Yok Bayar dan Menang Cukai Harta’ campaign to reward taxpayers who pay their property taxes on time.

MPBP president Mohd Nazid Jasiman said the campaign, held in conjunction with the council’s 25th anniversary carnival, offers 118 prizes worth a total of RM100,000, including two electric motorcycles, laptops, gold pendants and grocery vouchers.

He said the lucky draw, which is offering the EV as its grand prize for the first time, also aims to encourage more property owners to switch to online tax payments.

“The difference this year is that taxpayers must meet the main requirement of making payments through e-billing or online, in addition to having no outstanding tax arrears.

“The campaign has also successfully encouraged about 20 per cent of taxpayers in the MPBP area to switch to online payments, while total tax collections stood at around RM50 million,” he said.

He was speaking to Bernama after attending the Hi-Tea and Prize Presentation Ceremony for the Three Main Winners of the 2026 Yok Bayar dan Menang Cukai Harta Campaign Lucky Draw at Menara MPBP here today.

Mohd Nazid said that of the approximately 83,000 taxpayers in the MPBP administrative area, 17,000 had switched to online payments.

He hoped campaigns of this kind could continue as an effective platform for fostering a culture of paying taxes on time, while expanding the use of digital services among the public.

Meanwhile, grand prize winner Lim Yew Jiuan, 38, who represented her father, Lim Kim Choon, said she never expected that paying property tax online would enable them to win an electric car.

“My father and I have always paid our taxes on time, but this time I made the payment online and decided to try my luck after learning about the campaign and lucky draw organised by MPBP,” she said.

Electric motorcycle winner Md Harahap Shahran, 46, said he initially thought the telephone call informing him of his win was a scam before learning that he had genuinely been selected as a winner.
