KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Instead of playing against China twice, the Harimau Malaya squad will now face China and Yemen in Tier 1 international friendlies in Guangzhou, China, in November.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) said they received an update from the Chinese Football Association (CFA) today confirming that Malaysia would face China on Nov 14 before taking on Yemen on Nov 17.

“According to the latest FIFA rankings, China are ranked 96th in the world, Yemen 144th and Malaysia 133rd.

“These matches are part of the national team’s preparations to gain international-level competitive exposure and strengthen them ahead of upcoming challenges,” FAM said in a statement today.

FAM had previously announced that Malaysia would play two Tier 1 international friendlies against China in Guangzhou on Nov 14 and Nov 17 as part of the national team’s preparations to improve their world ranking.

FAM president Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan was quoted as saying the two friendlies were important for Harimau Malaya to accumulate ranking points and improve their chances of securing a higher pot for the draws for the 2030 FIFA World Cup and 2032 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
