KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) has brought aerospace science education to more than 3,000 students through a programme conducted at 27 schools across Guangxi, Yunnan, Qinghai and other regions in China.

According to HIT, the “HIT Integrated Media Science Popularisation Series Entering Classrooms” campaign forms part of the university’s postgraduate volunteer teaching corps’ efforts to expand access to science education in areas where its volunteers are stationed.

The programme combines science popularisation books with metaverse-based courses, allowing students to explore simulated lunar and Martian bases using 3D modelling and other technologies, according to HIT in a statement.

Students also participated in interactive activities, including question-and-answer sessions with artificial intelligence (AI) agents and simulations of planetary rover route planning.

One student, Leng Xingsong, said the books and metaverse courses helped him explore the structure and operating principles of planetary rovers in an interactive, game-like learning experience.

HIT said the science popularisation series is available in Chinese and English and includes titles on robotic arms used in space, China’s Yutu and Zhurong planetary rovers, and the country’s lunar soil sampling missions.

The university said the series draws on aerospace knowledge, engineering experience and science education resources, combining books, aerospace exhibition halls, AI-based multimedia videos and metaverse courses to make complex scientific concepts more accessible.

HIT said the initiative aims to support science education and encourage students’ interest in aerospace and scientific research.
