KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- The RM1.1 billion allocation announced under Budget 2027 for enforcement agencies, including the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD), will help combat smuggling, curb revenue leakages and protect the country's economic interests.

Customs director-general Datuk Seri Amran Ahmad said the allocation reflected the MADANI Government's continued support for RMCD and related agencies, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Royal Malaysia Police, in strengthening their operational capabilities.

“RMCD expresses its highest appreciation and gratitude to the Prime Minister, who is also Finance Minister, for announcing the allocation.

“RMCD fully supports the policies, direction and economic initiatives outlined in Budget 2027 to safeguard economic stability and combat national revenue leakages,” he said in a statement today.

He said RMCD was stepping up enforcement against business premises operated by foreign nationals that violated the law and were involved in tax evasion, through integrated operations with the Inland Revenue Board and the Finance Ministry's Special Task Force.

Amran said through operations conducted from July to August in the Klang Valley, Selangor and Johor, RMCD seized 429,526 cigarettes and 7,773.93 litres of alcoholic beverages valued at RM715,695.26, inclusive of duties and taxes, and detained 23 individuals to assist investigations.

RMCD also welcomed the duty and tax exemptions for the public, industry players and traders announced under Budget 2027 to stimulate economic activity and reduce business costs, he added.

On public sector incentives, Amran, on behalf of the department's personnel, expressed appreciation for the announcement of a RM1,500 Special Financial Assistance payment for 1.3 million civil servants, describing it as an encouragement to continue delivering the best possible service.

He stressed that RMCD remained committed to supporting the implementation of Budget 2027 through efficient revenue collection, stronger enforcement, the use of technology and improved service delivery, guided by integrity and professionalism.
