PUTRAJAYA, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- Childcare centre (TASKA) operators are advised to halt outdoor activities to protect children from exposure to polluted air due to the haze affecting several areas in the country.
The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM), through the Social Welfare Department (JKM), stated today that any decisions regarding childcare centre operations must take into account current Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in their respective areas and comply with the National Haze Action Plan and directives from relevant authorities.
"KPWKM advises all childcare centre operators to stop outdoor activities to reduce children's exposure to polluted air, while ensuring the environment remains safe and conducive," the statement read.
The Ministry noted that if conditions still permit childcare centres to operate, operators and parents are encouraged to discuss and determine the most suitable care arrangements based on local conditions, family needs, and the best interests of the children.
"This approach is crucial to ensure the children's welfare is safeguarded without disregarding the needs of parents, particularly those who are employed," the statement added.
KPWKM also urges childcare centre operators and parents to stay updated on API readings issued by the Department of Environment and to adhere to advice from the Ministry of Health and directives from the authorities from time to time.
"The safety and health of the children must always be the primary consideration in every decision," the statement concluded.
"KPWKM, through JKM, believes that good cooperation and communication between childcare centre operators and parents are crucial to ensuring children continue to receive appropriate protection and care throughout this haze period," the statement read.
