KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- Criminal cases involving school students, including those occurring within school compounds, were among the matters that received the attention of Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, during an audience with delegations from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and the Ilham Seni Diraja programme yesterday.
According to a post on Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s Facebook page today, the meeting at Istana Negara also discussed the causes of social ills and measures to address them to reduce risks and threats to students.
“Among the main issues discussed today were criminal cases involving students, some of which occurred within school compounds. What are the apparent and underlying causes, and what measures can be taken in this modern era?
“Everyone present shared their views and opinions on efforts to address social ills to reduce risks and threats to school students,” Her Majesty said.
According to the post, the meeting also discussed the latest developments in the Ilham Seni Diraja programme.
The UTM delegation was led by its vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim, and registrar Datuk Dr Mohd Sharil Abdullah, accompanied by three students.
The Ilham Seni Diraja programme delegation was led by the Education Ministry’s Sports, Co-curricular and Arts Division director Ithnin Mahadi, and three students participating in the programme.
Also present were Grand Chamberlain of Istana Negara Datuk Azuan Affendy Zairakithnaini, and Raja Zarith Sofiah of Johor Foundation chief executive officer Hishamuddin Abd Rahim.
Others present included child and adolescent mental health counsellor and specialist Dr Noor Aishah Rosli, and Universiti Putra Malaysia Faculty of Human Ecology senior lecturer Dr Murni Wan Mohd Noor.
