Diversity In Culture, Language, And Religion Strengthens Harmony In Malaysian Society

SEREMBAN, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- Diversity in culture, language, religion, and customs constitutes Malaysia's true wealth; it must be understood and appreciated to foster harmonious relationships within the community.

Deputy National Unity Minister R. Yuneswaran said that festivals are not merely for celebration but serve as opportunities for the community to share joy, strengthen bonds, and appreciate the diversity that forms the strength of society in this country.

“Whenever the festive season arrives, we witness a spirit of goodwill among the people -- regardless of race or religion -- as they visit one another, mingle and share meals.

“This demonstrates a unique cultural character that must be cherished and upheld by future generations,” he said while speaking at the launch of the “A Brighter Deepavali” campaign at Mydin Seremban 2 here.

He noted that the government cannot act alone in efforts to strengthen national unity; rather, the private sector and the community play crucial roles in ensuring that the values of unity are translated into daily actions and practices.

In conjunction with Deepavali, Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad (MYDIN) will reach out to 15 selected welfare homes nationwide through the “A Brighter Deepavali” campaign.

MYDIN executive director Ahimmat Mydin said that MYDIN is collaborating with radio stations Raaga and Minnal FM, as well as the newspaper Makkal Osai, to make this initiative a success.

Through the "MYDIN Prihatin" initiative, MYDIN -- together with its supplier partners -- will contribute RM100,000 in the form of cash vouchers and basic necessities to 15 welfare homes registered with the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

Ahimmat also said that the public can contribute basic necessities too via donation baskets available at selected MYDIN branches until Oct 30.

"Customers are also welcome to contribute so that more people can experience the joy of Deepavali through the aid, which will be distributed from Nov 1 to 8," he added.
