KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- As the Gaza conflict enters its third year, the Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) has called on the international community to prioritise efforts to stop the killings, end the siege and bring an end to Israel’s illegal occupation.
In a statement, ABIM president Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin said any ceasefire must protect civilians, humanitarian access must allow lives to be rebuilt, and a political solution must guarantee the Palestinian people's right to determine their own future.
"The world’s priorities must be clear: stop the killings, end the siege, and bring an end to Israel’s illegal occupation."
“All three efforts must proceed simultaneously. The safety of the Palestinian people cannot continue to be delayed while waiting for negotiations that are one-sided and fail to protect them,” he said.
Ahmad Fahmi also urged Malaysia to work with Palestine, member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and like-minded partners across regions to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people.
He said each country participating in the cooperation should announce its actions and report on progress, while ensuring that humanitarian access is protected.
International agencies reported that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict escalated in October 2023 when Israel came under an unprecedented barrage of rockets from the Gaza Strip.
The total number of Palestinians killed since the conflict began has now reached 74,250, while the number of injured stands at 175,278.
The Israeli military subsequently launched a ground operation that resulted in the destruction of most of the Gaza Strip.
A ceasefire has been in effect in the Gaza Strip since October 2025, but Israeli forces have continued to launch attacks on the Palestinian territory.
Ahmad Fahmi, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia, said the world continues to count the number of Palestinians who have been killed, injured and displaced.
“Every number represents a person who had a name, a family, and hopes.
“Are Palestinian lives valued merely as figures in casualty reports and statistics? How much longer will their suffering continue to be recorded, while their right to live in safety remains unassured?” he questioned.
According to Ahmad Fahmi, Malaysian universities, media, and civil society can collaborate with Palestinian organisations to verify and archive testimonies with proper consent and identity protection.
Malaysians can also ensure the continuity of education and rehabilitation through regular contributions to transparent organisations, he said.
Ahmad Fahmi said solidarity must be measured through actions that uphold those rights. Palestine is not merely a casualty figure or an anniversary to be commemorated.
"As long as oppression continues, the world's responsibility remains incomplete."
