KOTA KINABALU, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- The Communications Ministry is exploring ways to expand the free e-Tuisyen Rakyat programme to allow students with reliable internet access to attend online classes from home.

Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said students currently had to visit National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) to participate in the programme, which offers free online tuition with teachers in five subjects.

"We are working on the best approach to enable students with good internet connectivity to join e-Tuisyen Rakyat classes from home. These programmes are provided free to all Malaysians," he said.

Fahmi was speaking to reporters after officiating the opening of Inanam Sentral NADI today. Also present was Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, who is also Sepanggar MP.

The minister said the proposed expansion was part of efforts to ensure government digital initiatives reached more people, particularly students with internet access at home.

Fahmi said NADI had evolved beyond providing internet access to become community hubs for talent development and skills training.

He said NADI managers and assistant managers were also conducting programmes within communities, including through the NADI on Wheels initiative.

“NADI today is very different from before. Our programmes are no longer confined to NADI premises. We are also bringing our managers and assistant managers into communities to conduct various modules and activities,” he said.

With the opening of Inanam Sentral NADI, the nationwide network now comprises 1,099 centres, including 132 in Sabah.

Fahmi said the expansion would improve access to education, skills training, employment and digital economic opportunities, particularly in rural areas.

Meanwhile, the minister said the 1 NADI 1 Prompt Engineer programme had attracted 1,247 participants nationwide, including 509 in Sabah.

He said 50 per cent of participants in the first cohort had completed all three training levels, while the programme had achieved more than 60 per cent of its overall target.

Fahmi said NADI's digital skills initiatives would help communities prepare for the future economy, including opportunities to work remotely and earn an income without leaving their hometowns.
