KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia stayed lower at mid-morning weighed down by persistent selling in selected heavyweights led by the financial services and construction sectors.
At 11 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slipped 10.92 points to 1,600.86 from Wednesday’s close of 1,611.78, after opening 1.67 points higher at 1,613.45.
On the broader market, decliners outpaced gainers 646 to 283, with 427 counters unchanged, 1,472 untraded and 13 suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.50 billion shares worth RM1.03 billion.
CIMB eased 13 sen to RM7.20, Gamuda shed 16 sen to RM4.92, and Hong Leong Bank erased 42 sen to RM21.08. These three counters collectively dragged down the composite index by 5.85 points.
Among other heavyweights, YTL Power International fell eight sen to RM5.54, Press Metal Aluminium cut seven sen to RM7.13, Petronas Chemicals was six sen lower at RM4.16, while Tenaga Nasional added 12 sen to RM12.98, and IOI Properties gained 12 sen to RM3.42.
In active trade, V.S Industry put on 1.5 sen to 34 sen, Top Glove increased two sen to 87.5 sen, Jaks Resources rose one sen to 18.5 sen, NationGate expanded six sen to RM1.92, while Zetrix AI inched down half a sen to 7.5 sen.
As for the top gainers, Nestle added 78 sen to RM89.80, Chin Teck Plantations rose 26 sen to RM10.54, Binastra Corporation put on 20 sen to RM2.70, Bus Cap was 17.5 sen higher at 99 sen, and KSL Holdings climbed eight sen to RM2.65.
Malaysian Pacific Industries led the decliners, falling RM1.38 to RM43.82, United Plantations eased 42 sen to RM30.76, Vitox Corporation and Kuala Lumpur Kepong slid 38 sen each to RM10.84 and RM20.72, and Mi Technovation weakened 37 sen to RM6.01.
On the index board, the FBM Mid 70 Index narrowed 171.25 points to 17,582.24, the FBM Emas Shariah Index fell 80.45 points to 12,066.70, the FBM Emas Index erased 87.02 points to 12,037.93, the FBM Top 100 Index slipped 89.65 points to 11,812.33, and the FBM ACE Index gave up 57.31 points to 5,565.07.
Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged down 1.32 points to 178.56, the Energy Index weakened 1.04 points to 837.93, the Financial Services Index dropped 161.02 points to 18,402.30, and the Plantation Index went down 87.28 points to 8,888.76.
