Malaysia Strengthens Climate Action Ahead Of COP31 With Whole-of-Nation Effort

07/10/2026 07:51 PM

PUTRAJAYA  Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is stepping up efforts to advance its climate agenda ahead of the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), bringing together government, industry, academia and civil society in a whole-of-nation effort.

The Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES) in a statement said  the effort was reflected in the Malaysia Pavilion, which was soft-launched by its minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup in conjunction with the Road to Antalya: Climate Change Forum (CCF) 2026 in Kuala Lumpur today.

The soft launch officiated by Arthur, marks a key milestone in Malaysia’s preparations for COP31, which will take place in Antalya, Türkiye, from Nov 9 to 20.

“With the theme “Climate Action Now: Driving Resilient Growth,” the Malaysia Pavilion will showcase the country’s climate action, sustainability initiatives, and solutions at COP31.

"It will also strengthen partnerships and facilitate dialogue on practical pathways to resilient and sustainable growth,” the statement said.

Led by NRES and implemented by the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), the Malaysia Pavilion is supported by private sector contributions and partnerships, as well as participation from government agencies, corporations, academia, non-governmental organisations, and other partners.

“This broad support reflects Malaysia’s whole-of-nation approach to advancing its climate agenda and shows that preparations for Antalya have already begun,” the statement said.

NRES said the forum gathered representatives from government, industry, and international partners for a high-level dialogue on Malaysia’s climate ambitions and COP31 priorities, highlighting the Malaysia Pavilion as a platform for climate action and partnerships.

The event included a panel discussion titled “Malaysia’s Climate Ambition and the Road to COP31.”

The panel featured perspectives from NRES, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye, and the Federative Republic of Brazil, offering national, industry, and international views on Malaysia’s path to COP31.

The discussion addressed Malaysia’s climate ambitions, the shift from commitments to implementation, government-industry collaboration, the energy transition as an economic opportunity, Malaysia’s global climate role, and the concrete actions and partnerships Malaysia can present at COP31.

“The CCF highlighted seven thematic clusters that will guide the Malaysia Pavilion’s programme and priorities for COP31.

“These clusters unite ministries and partners across key areas of Malaysia’s climate and sustainable development agenda, contribute to COP31 engagements in Antalya, and showcase national initiatives and collaboration opportunities,” the statement said.

As Malaysia moves toward Antalya, NRES said the Malaysia Pavilion will showcase national progress, strengthen international partnerships, and advance practical discussions on climate action and resilient growth.
