KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- A study by Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has identified 268 job roles and 748 skills needed to meet the future requirements of Malaysia’s communications and multimedia sector.
The study also identified four emerging roles - Artificial Intelligence Engineer, Artificial Intelligence Ethics Officer and Edge Computing Specialist in the telecommunications subsector, and Head of Postal Inspectorate in the postal and courier subsector.
The 748 skills mapped in the study include future networks, cybersecurity, cloud computing, data analytics, digital content creation, responsible AI use and automation.
Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan said talent development must keep pace with economic changes and industry needs to ensure Malaysia remains competitive.
“The collaboration between TalentCorp and MCMC is important as it provides a clearer picture of the industry’s skills requirements, not only for today but also for the years ahead,” he said in a statement.
He said a data-driven, industry-led approach to talent development was important to ensure the country’s workforce has the relevant skills to seize new opportunities while meeting the needs of a continuously evolving industry.
The study, titled Impact Study of Artificial Intelligence, Digital and Green Economy on Malaysia’s Workforce for the Communications and Multimedia Sector, was jointly conducted by TalentCorp and MCMC and launched yesterday.
Its findings also support the development of the Communications and Multimedia Future Skills Framework (C&M FSF) by MCMC as a basis for aligning skills requirements, talent development and career pathways with industry needs.
TalentCorp group chief executive officer Biruntha Mooruthi said the study provided a foundation for translating industry needs into more targeted talent development measures.
“Through TalentCorp’s Future Skills Talent Council, we bring together employers, the government, academia and training providers to understand industry skills requirements and determine the actions needed,” she said.
She said the approach aimed to develop the right skills, create clearer career pathways and connect Malaysians with employment opportunities in a growing sector.
The study also proposed 29 strategic initiatives across the three subsectors, including developing future technology talent, upskilling in AI and digital skills, aligning education with industry needs, and promoting the responsible adoption of technology and green economy practices.
TalentCorp and MCMC are strengthening collaboration among the government, industry, academia and training providers to develop talent that meets the sector’s evolving needs.
