NIBONG TEBAL, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- The Social Welfare Department (JKM) is ready to provide counselling services to the family of the late Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, a Form Four student who was allegedly murdered at a school in Yong Peng, Johor.
JKM director-general Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan said counsellors were ready to provide assistance should the family require it.
"However, at this time, let us give the family the time and space to compose themselves. When they are ready to seek our help, Insya-Allah, we will be ready at any time," he said.
Speaking to reporters after the closing ceremony of JKM's MADANI Adopted Village Programme 2026 at Kampung Sungai Setar Besar here today, Che Murad Sayang also extended his condolences and expressed sympathy to the family, hoping they would be granted strength in facing the loss.
Last Saturday, Irene Sofiya was found unconscious and covered in blood in the school hall at about 5.50 pm.
Police arrested three 16-year-old male students to assist in the investigation, with one of them remanded for six days until Oct 9 to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
