203 Terengganu Athletes Receive RM1.56 Mln In SUKMA, Para SUKMA Victory Incentives

KUALA NERUS, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu government has presented victory incentives totalling RM1.56 million to 203 athletes who represented the state at the 2026 Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para Malaysia Games (Para SUKMA).

State Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Hishamuddin Abdul Karim said the incentives were a token of appreciation for the athletes’ efforts and sacrifices in bringing honour to the state.

He said Terengganu had improved its standing in this year’s Games, rising from fifth place at the 2024 SUKMA in Sarawak to third place, behind Selangor and the Federal Territories.

"Alhamdulillah... Terengganu improved its standing at this year’s SUKMA, winning a total of 123 medals, comprising 43 gold, 44 silver and 36 bronze. At Para SUKMA, Terengganu finished 10th with seven gold, 11 silver and 19 bronze medals.

"To recognise this achievement, the state government has also increased the victory incentives to RM5,000 for SUKMA and Para SUKMA gold medallists, RM3,000 for silver and RM1,500 for bronze," he said at the incentive presentation ceremony here last night.

Hishamuddin said the Terengganu contingent would begin preparations earlier and strengthen its training programmes to do even better at the 2028 SUKMA in Kelantan.

"We achieved our target at this year's SUKMA by finishing among the top three teams. For the Kelantan SUKMA, we will strive to move up to second place, or even to become champions," he said.

At the ceremony, the state government also disbursed RM117,200 under the National Representative Scheme (SWARA) and Victory Award Scheme (SHAKE) to 34 Terengganu athletes who represented the country at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
