KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) is ready to provide psychosocial support to the family of Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, who was suspected to have been murdered at a school in Yong Peng, Johor.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, said the ministry had not yet received any request for assistance from the 16-year-old victim's family.

“No family member has come forward to seek psychosocial support so far, but we are ready should they need it.

“We are also taking a cautious approach as we do not want to disturb the victim's grieving family,” she told reporters after launching a forum organised by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) here today.

Elaborating further, Nancy said KPWKM had not held formal engagements with the Education Ministry (MOE) regarding psychological support for students, though informal discussions have taken place.

On Saturday (Oct 3), Irene Sofiya was found unconscious and bleeding in the school hall at about 5.50 pm.

Following the incident, police detained three 16-year-old male students to assist in investigations, before one of them was remanded for six days until Oct 9.
