SINGAPORE, Oct 5 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) on Monday raised its 2027 growth forecast for the ASEAN+3 region, comprising ASEAN member states plus China, Japan and South Korea, to 4.1 per cent, up 0.1 percentage point from its previous projection, as stronger artificial intelligence (AI)-related exports and investment support economic activities, reported Xinhua.
The growth forecast for 2026 was unchanged at 4.1 per cent, AMRO said in a statement.
"The AI investment cycle is supporting a widening range of regional activities, although domestic demand remains uneven," said AMRO Chief Economist Dong He.
He also said that disruptions to energy supplies and industrial inputs proved less severe than many had feared, limiting the drag on production.
However, higher energy and logistics costs continued to weigh on household purchasing power and business costs, he added.
Looking ahead, AMRO said the region's growth outlook remains particularly sensitive to AI-related demand, which could either strengthen or weaken exports and investment.
Additional downside risks include renewed disruptions to energy supplies in West Asia and a more persistent El Nino, as well as financial-market volatility and further protectionist measures.
