KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- A conference on gut health will be held here on Oct 11 to discuss various aspects of digestive wellness, including its links to mental wellbeing, diabetes and chronic gastrointestinal disorders.
The Gut Health Conference 2026, themed “Integrative Approaches to Digestive Wellness”, will bring together healthcare professionals and practitioners from Malaysia and India to exchange knowledge and perspectives on gut health.
Organising Chairperson Vaidya Anjali Rajeevan, also Chief Ayurvedic Practitioner at Arogya Holistic Care, said the conference aimed to deepen understanding of gut health and its connection to overall wellbeing.
“The conference aims to bring together healthcare professionals and practitioners from Malaysia and India to deepen understanding of gut health and its important connection with digestion, immunity, metabolism, mental health and overall wellbeing,” she said in a statement to Bernama.
Gut health refers to the overall condition and functioning of the digestive system, which plays an important role in digestion and is closely connected to metabolism, immunity, mental wellbeing and quality of life.
A 2025 study published in the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology involving 2,072 Malaysians found that 19.3 per cent had at least one disorder of gut-brain interaction, with functional constipation, functional dyspepsia and functional diarrhoea among the most prevalent conditions.
The conference will feature sessions on the relationship between gut health and cancer, the Ayurvedic concept of digestion, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), the gut-diabetes link, the gut-mind connection and chronic gastrointestinal disorders.
The Malaysia Ayurveda Professionals Association (MAPA) is organising the conference in collaboration with the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur, with support from the Berjaya Group.
Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia Somnath Ghosh is the chief guest, while Health Ministry (MoH) Director of the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Division Dr Suhaila Ismail is the guest of honour.
A highlight of the event will be the presentation of the MAPA Ayurveda Excellence Award to Dr Goh Cheng Soon, former MoH Director of the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Division, in recognition of her contributions to the development and advancement of Ayurveda and Traditional and Complementary Medicine in Malaysia.
The conference will be held at Manhattan II Ballroom, Level 14, Berjaya Times Square here from 8 am to 4.40 pm.
