KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- The MCKK Series Exhibition 2026, featuring 49 paintings capturing the heritage of The Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) and the royal town of Kuala Kangsar, Perak is being held from Oct 3 to Oct 18 at the KL City Art Gallery in Publika Shopping Gallery.
Tunku Besar Seri Menanti of Negeri Sembilan Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz, who officiated the exhibition, said the collection highlighted the importance of preserving the memories and rich history associated with the premier institution.
“As we admire the works, we are given an opportunity to look back at both MCKK, and Kuala Kangsar through familiar places, scenes and memories,” he said in his speech at The MCKK Series Exhibition 2026, here today.
He said the artworks were specially commissioned as part of The MCKK Fundraising initiative, with proceeds supporting MCKK.
Tunku Ali also encouraged Old Boys, parents, friends, institutions and Malaysians to support the MCKK Foundation’s fundraising efforts, including by acquiring the paintings or contributing directly to the MCKK Endowment Fund.
“Whether through acquiring one of these paintings, making a direct contribution to the MCKK Endowment Fund or supporting the Foundation in other ways, every contribution can help ensure that the opportunities provided by MCKK remain available to those who will come after us,” he said.
Meanwhile, Haron Mokhtar, the artist behind the collection, said he wanted to contribute to the country through his artistic talent and create works that would preserve memories of MCKK for present and future generations.
“I am an artist; I want to contribute to the country. I am not a wealthy person, but I have talent,” he said.
Haron, who began his career as an educator and continued his artistic practice after retiring from teaching in 2021, said the exhibition marks his ninth solo showcase and took two years to complete.
The collection features various aspects of MCKK, including its buildings, traditions, sporting activities, student life and memories associated with the school.
It also captures notable landmarks across the royal town of Kuala Kangsar, such as Masjid Ubudiah, Masjid Ridzwaniah, Istana Iskandariah, the colonial-era post office, the Kuala Kangsar railway station and the famous Yut Loy kopitiam.
The artworks were commissioned to commemorate MCKK, with proceeds from their sale, as well as sales of the exhibition catalogue, channelled to The MCKK Foundation.
