03/10/2026 10:04 AM

OSLO, Oct 3 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- The Norwegian government and eight labour and employer organisations reached an agreement Friday to promote the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace while protecting employees' rights, according to a press release by the government, reported Xinhua.

"Artificial intelligence can help us work more efficiently, create value and strengthen competitiveness," Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said. He said the agreement would help employers, employees and authorities develop solutions that also safeguard workers' rights.

Covering the period from Oct 2, 2026, to Dec 31, 2029, the agreement emphasises employee participation and cooperation when introducing AI. It aims to enable public and private organisations to adopt new technology while ensuring that the benefits are shared by businesses, employees and society.

The parties will cooperate on improving productivity, equipping employees with relevant skills, preventing exclusion and adverse effects on working conditions, and sharing experience on responsible AI use.

A coordination group comprising the agreement's parties, government agencies and research institutions will oversee implementation. The Ministry of Digitalisation and Public Governance will lead the follow-up work and provide secretariat support, said the government.
