Bayan Baru Residents Brace For LRT Mutiara Construction Congestion - Sim

GEORGE TOWN, Oct 2 (Bernama) -- Bayan Baru residents are prepared to endure traffic congestion during construction of the LRT Mutiara Line, recognising that the project is needed to address worsening traffic in the rapidly developing area, according to Bayan Baru Member of Parliament Sim Tze Tzin.

He said about 40 per cent of the LRT alignment and stations were within the Bayan Baru parliamentary constituency, resulting in extensive construction activity.

“The Bayan Baru residents know that if we do not build the Mutiara Line, the situation will become worse. Despite the congestion, I have received a lot of feedback that they are willing to be patient during construction,” he told reporters after launching the Malaysia Smart Manufacturing Awards (MSMA) today.

Sim, who is also Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, was responding to complaints over severe congestion caused by traffic restrictions during LRT construction.

He said local authorities and relevant parties were adopting a “no road closure” approach, with roads kept partially open to minimise disruption.

Sim said the LRT Mutiara Line was expected to ease congestion once completed, although it would not eliminate the problem entirely.

He said that rapid development and high-value investments in Bayan Baru and the Free Industrial Zone were also increasing traffic as more people travelled to the area for employment.

“Many people are coming to Bayan Baru to look for jobs because of its rapid development and high-value investments,” he said.
