PETALING JAYA, Oct 2 (Bernama) -- Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung has announced his resignation as an MP without any conditions, effective today.

He said he formally submitted his resignation letter to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul yesterday.

“My resignation takes effect today. I met Tan Sri yesterday and formally submitted my resignation letter.

“We met at 3 pm yesterday to hand over my duties and as a mark of respect for our legislative institution,” he said at a special press conference at the Petaling Jaya Parliamentary Service Centre here, which was also shared on his Facebook page.

Lee said the Petaling Jaya Parliamentary Service Centre will remain open to serve the local community.

Lee said he will submit an official letter to leave PKR on Monday, while thanking the party for allowing him to serve.

“I am grateful to PKR for the opportunities over the past 18 years, and to my comrades who continue to believe in clean politics, institutional reform and a Malaysia that celebrates diversity,” he said.

On Sept 30, Lee was informed that PKR had suspended his membership for three years.
