1. INDONESIAN PARLIAMENT APPROVES SUYUDI ARIO SETO AS NEW POLICE CHIEF -- ANTARA

Indonesia's House of Representatives formally approved Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto as the new national police chief during a plenary session on Thursday, succeeding General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. 

 

2. PRESIDENT PRABOWO APPOINTS ARRMANATHA NASIR AS NEW FOREIGN MINISTER -- ANTARA

President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir as Minister of Foreign Affairs, replacing Sugiono, at a ceremony held at the State Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.

 

MYANMAR

1. SHIPS CARRYING MYANMAR NATIONALS REACH TERRITORIAL WATERS -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

Naval vessels carrying 1,476 Myanmar nationals repatriated from Malaysia have reached Myanmar territorial waters on October 1. Officials said the vessels are expected to arrive at Yangon Port in the next few days.

 

2. PARLIAMENT DEBATES INFRASTRUCTURE, IRRIGATION -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

Infrastructure and irrigation dominated the fifth day of the third session of the Upper House. Legislators debated over adequate water supply for farming during the summer period, connecting roads to transport industrial goods and repairing damaged bridges.

1. PAL TO RELAUNCH DIRECT MANILA-SAIPAN FLIGHTS STARTING OCT. 25 -- PHILIPPINE NEWS AGENCY

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced on Thursday the relaunch of its direct services between Manila and Saipan beginning Oct. 25.

The trough of Tropical Storm Choi-Wan outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) will continue to cause rains across the Visayas and Mindanao, the weather bureau said on Friday.

1. THAI PM ORDERS PREPARATIONS FOR MORE RAIN FROM OCTOBER 4-5 -- THE NATION

Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul ordered every province on October 1, 2026, to prepare for another round of rain, with rainfall expected to increase from October 4–5 onwards. Authorities in areas still affected by flooding were told to urgently assess how much more water they can accommodate and put preventive measures in place. 

 

2. CITY STANDS FIRM ON FLOOD PLAN -- BANGKOK POST

Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt has defended the city's flood- management strategy, rejecting claims that Bangkok had abandoned its royal "monkey-cheek" water-retention projects.

Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery exports reached US$56 billion (RM229 billion) in the first nine months of this year despite volatility in global markets. Asia was Vietnam's largest export market, followed by the Americas and Europe.

 

2. AIRPORTS HANDLE OVER 100 MILLION PASSENGERS -- VIETNAMPLUS

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said the country’s airports handled nearly 102 million passengers until September, up 12 per cent from a year earlier. International passengers accounted for more than 39 million.
