Kuching City FC Set For Home Return After Stadium Revamp

KUCHING, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Kuching City FC are relishing a return to home ground at Stadium Taha Ariffin after spending more than a month playing away due to upgrading works. 

Kuching City FC executive chairman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said the team, particularly its new players, were eager to perform in front of their home supporters.

“Although bringing in many new players was necessary due to the packed schedule this season, building understanding takes time.

“However, the team’s progress shows that the players are becoming increasingly comfortable playing together,” he told a press conference at Stadium Taha Ariffin here today.

On international competition, Fazzrudin said Stadium Taha Ariffin had been approved as a venue for Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and ASEAN matches following a site inspection by the AFC and Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) on Sept 23.

He said the approval would allow Sarawak fans to watch international matches involving teams from South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and Cambodia at the stadium, although several upgrading works, including the installation of stadium lights and a broadcast room, were still being completed.

He said the stadium now has a capacity of 17,584 spectators and numbered seating, while other facilities including the stands, changing rooms, referees’ room, match commissioner’s room, toilets, lighting and cleanliness had also been upgraded.

Kuching City FC are scheduled to face Hong Kong club Kitchee FC on Oct 15 in the AFC Champions League Two.
