UKM Advances To 301-325 Band In Times Higher Education World University Rankings

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) has made further strides in global university rankings, advancing to the 301-325 band in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (WUR) 2027, from the 301-350 band previously.

In a statement today, UKM said the latest global ranking marked another milestone, placing it second among public universities in the country.

“THE WUR is an international university ranking that evaluates research-oriented institutions based on five key areas, namely teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook.

“For the 2027 edition, UKM recorded improvements in the areas of Research Environment, International Outlook and Industry,” the statement read.

UKM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Sufian Jusoh said international rankings offered one of the key indicators for the university to gauge its position in the global higher education landscape.

“The ranking is important as it provides an overview of UKM’s standing on the international stage, while helping us compare our achievements with those of other universities.

“This achievement will further strengthen UKM’s global profile and open up more opportunities for collaboration with academic and industry partners,” he said.

Sufian said that although rankings were not the only measure of a university’s success, UKM remained committed to making meaningful academic contributions and applying its expertise for the benefit of society and the nation.

“This achievement reflects the continuous efforts of the UKM community to improve the university’s performance across various areas, especially research, teaching, international networking and industry relations,” he said.

He said the achievement was also in line with the aspirations of TEKAD57, UKM’s strategic framework for 2026-2030, which focuses on strengthening the university’s performance across various areas.

“This improved ranking is a positive development and provides an opportunity for us to identify areas for further improvement,” he said.
