JAC Motors To Locally Assemble T9 PHEV, BEV Pickup Trucks

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- JAC Motors’ local pickup truck distributor Evolvelectric Motors Sdn Bhd has entered into an agreement with Feytech Holdings Bhd’s wholly owned subsidiary FT Assembly Sdn Bhd to locally assemble JAC’s T9 Diesel, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) petrol and battery electric vehicle (BEV) pickup trucks in Malaysia.

In a statement today, the automotive company said the agreement marks a significant milestone for JAC in Malaysia, with the locally assembled T9 PHEV and BEV set to become the country’s “first” locally assembled PHEV and BEV pickup trucks.

It said the move expands Malaysia’s local vehicle assembly capabilities into the light commercial new energy vehicle (NEV) segment while supporting greater participation across the country’s automotive manufacturing and supply chain ecosystem.

“Under the phased completely knocked down (CKD) programme, the T9 PHEV petrol will lead the programme, followed by the T9 Diesel and BEV models, which will be locally assembled at Feytech’s manufacturing facility in Kulim, Kedah.

“Production is expected to commence in November 2026, with an estimated annual production capacity of 3,000 units in the first year, while the BEV model is targeted to begin in January 2027,” it said.

Evolvelectric Motors chief executive officer (CEO) Lau Yit Mun said the CKD programme marks an important step in JAC’s long-term development in Malaysia.

“While Japanese and American manufacturers have chosen to produce their pickup trucks in Thailand, JAC Pickup together with Evolvelectric Motors is building a stronger foundation in Malaysia by producing its pickup trucks locally.

“The T9 PHEV petrol will lead our phased CKD programme, followed by the diesel and BEV models. JAC is also exploring opportunities to export pickup trucks from Malaysia, subject to favourable conditions,” he said.

Meanwhile, Feytech CEO and executive director Connie Go said the agreement expands the company’s capabilities into light commercial vehicle assembly, establishing a disciplined assembly process which strengthens manufacturing capabilities and broadens participation across the automotive value chain.

“We see this as an important platform for Feytech to develop further opportunities in vehicle assembly, automotive modules and other manufacturing activities in the future,” she added.
