MOSCOW, Sept 30 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has reached 8,116, an increase of more than 2,000 over the past month, the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) said, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
On Sept 1, the institute said there were 6,100 confirmed Ebola cases and 2,950 deaths.
“In the last 24 hours, 49 new cases, 23 deaths and 18 recoveries were recorded. Thus, the total number of cases has reached 8,116, with 3,924 deaths since the outbreak began,” the institute said on Tuesday.
Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) Director-General Jean Kaseya has previously said that the Ebola virus poses a threat to neighbouring countries as it continues to spread across the DRC.
