KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Transport Minister Anthony Loke has confirmed that he submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday.
He said Anwar had asked him to continue serving as Transport Minister for the time being, but his resignation would take effect once former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is released from prison to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
“When Datuk Seri Najib returns home, my resignation will take effect.
“My resignation is a party decision, based on DAP’s response and position on Datuk Seri Najib’s house arrest, which we do not agree with,” he said after launching the Malaysia Maritime Week 2026 here today.
Loke said he had personally handed the letter to the Prime Minister during their meeting to discuss his decision to step down from the Cabinet.
He said that for now, he would continue performing his duties as Transport Minister and no successor had been appointed to the post.
Loke offered to resign following a DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting on Sept 19 in response to the conditional pardon granted to Najib.
It allows him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine.
