Food Supply Cabins Among Initiatives Of MADANI Adopted Village To Assist Tioman Villagers

TIOMAN, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- Food supply cabins are among the key benefits that residents of Pulau Tioman will enjoy in preparation for the monsoon season, thanks to the MADANI Adopted Village initiative under the Ministry of Finance.

Two food supply cabin units located near the Marina and the Tioman Island Administrative Office in Kampung Tekek are currently being fabricated off-site and are expected to be installed at the location by the end of October 2026.

According to Kampung Tekek Village Committee chairman Abd Hafaz A Hamid, 63, these cabins provide organised storage space for dry food supplies, ensuring residents have access to provisions when supplies become scarce due to rough seas and unpredictable weather conditions.

“Every year, we receive a food supply contribution, a gift from the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah that is sufficient to meet the needs of the village's approximately 1,800 residents, as well as stranded tourists, particularly during the monsoon season.

“However, we lack a dedicated storage facility, such as a community hall, to store these supplies, forcing us to move the food stocks from one location to another,” he said.

In addition to the food supply cabin, the MADANI Adopted Village initiative encompasses various other projects aimed at improving the well-being of local residents and boosting the island's tourism industry.

Among them is a project to upgrade the public motorcycle parking area at Kampung Tekek Passenger Jetty, which is scheduled to begin on October 5 and is expected to be completed by December 28, 2026.

A resident of the village, Kamsiah Ariffin, 64, said the facility would protect residents' motorcycles left at the jetty for days at a time while they were away from the island.

“Sometimes I am away for as long as a week. Upon returning, I found the motorcycle has been exposed to the rain, and sometimes it wouldn't start," she said.

As for Kampung Juara, the Ministry of Finance is installing 10 solar-powered lights at the public jetty; the project begins on October 1 and is expected to be completed by December 1, 2026.

Kampung Juara resident Myya Mohd Yatim, 55, said the lights would benefit locals who use the jetty at night for various purposes, including fishing and tourism activities.

"Cargo operations here follow a schedule sometimes extending until midnight and the unloading of goods often continues until around 8 pm, so it is quite difficult to manage jetty activities without lighting.

"Having lights is certainly better, as tourists also sometimes like to relax in this area at night," he said.

Additionally, the Ministry of Finance is carrying out a temporary repair project for a slope affected by soil and rock collapses along the route from Kampung Tekek to Kampung Juara to ensure resident safety; this project begins on October 5 and is expected to be completed by December 28, 2026.

In total, 26 projects involving infrastructure development and community programmes costing RM3.54 million are being implemented by the Ministry of Finance through the MADANI Adopted Village initiative across four villages on the island, including Kampung Salang and Kampung Genting.

Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan conducted a working visit to the island on September 26–27, 2026, in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance's Budget Tour Series at the MADANI Adopted Village on Pulau Tioman.
