Pahang Taps Italian Expertise To Develop Dairy Buffalo Industry

KUANTAN, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- The Pahang state government is strengthening the dairy buffalo industry by securing quality breeds, modern technology and expertise through a working visit to Rota Guido SRL in Cremona, Italy, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said.

He said the visit focused on gaining a closer understanding of the technology, management systems and best practices used to develop Italy’s modern dairy buffalo industry.

Wan Rosdy said the areas examined included farm and livestock housing design, animal welfare, nutrition, waste management, milking technology, and milk handling and cooling systems.

“We also looked at how the approaches and technologies used in Italy could be adapted to Pahang’s climate and operational needs, including livestock management, technical services and veterinary support.

“This experience is important because we want the development of the dairy buffalo industry in Pahang to focus not only on increasing the number of animals but also on improving breed quality, genetics, technology and modern management to boost productivity,” he said in a Facebook post tonight.

He also said a memorandum of understanding was signed today between AGK Dairy Fresh Sdn Bhd and Rota Guido SRL, focusing on acquiring and breeding Italian Mediterranean dairy buffaloes in Bukit Kajang, Raub, as well as technical cooperation to support the development of livestock operations.

Meanwhile, Wan Rosdy said bringing selected buffaloes from Italy into Malaysia will also involve technical and veterinary cooperation, as well as meeting relevant export requirements.

“Through such cooperation, we want to see higher livestock productivity and quality, improved milk production, as well as new economic opportunities for local industry players.

“This is the approach we want to take in developing Pahang’s livestock sector, not merely by increasing the number of animals but also by enhancing the industry’s overall value, productivity and competitiveness,” he said.
