KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) is set to collaborate with Huawei Malaysia to evaluate and grant recognition to the technology company’s micro-credential courses.
MQA Chief Executive Officer Prof Datuk Dr Mohammad Shatar Sabran said Huawei had expressed interest in obtaining official MQA recognition for its stand-alone courses, which would be evaluated and verified by the MQA Quality Verification Centre (QVC) before being listed on the Stand-Alone Micro-Credentials (SAMC) portal.
“This initiative not only has the potential to elevate Huawei’s image but also offers significant added value to students undertaking these courses,” he said in a statement today.
He said Huawei had previously collaborated with more than 20 local universities on training and education, including integrating learning modules into academic programmes such as Computer Science and Engineering.
Mohammad Shatar said MQA-recognised courses could support upskilling and reskilling, while the modules could also be used for credit transfers or as requirements towards formal academic qualifications at higher education institutions, subject to the relevant criteria.
He said the initiative was in line with Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir’s aspiration to expand micro-credential offerings and strengthen the lifelong learning ecosystem.
“Listing the courses on the SAMC portal will provide added value to students who undertake them. At present, the courses offered by Huawei have yet to receive MQA recognition.
“If all verification processes proceed smoothly, the official launch of this collaboration is expected to take place before the end of 2026,” he said.
The MQA received a courtesy visit from a Huawei Malaysia delegation in Cyberjaya yesterday, led by Delea Tan, Senior Manager of Services and Talent Ecosystem Manager for Huawei Malaysia.
Also present were MQA Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Quality Assurance) Prof Ts Dr M. Iqbal Saripan, Senior Director (Policy and Expertise Development) Mohamad Dzafir Mustafa and Head of the MQA International Unit Muhammad Hasfarizal Kamaludin.
