ACCA, MOE Upskills 1,000 Accounting Educators Nationwide To Nurture Future Talent

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 -- The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has partnered with the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) to upskill around 1,000 Principles of Accounting educators nationwide, supporting Malaysia’s target of developing 60,000 accountants by 2030.

In a statement today, ACCA informed that the initiative seeks to strengthen the country’s accounting talent pipeline by enhancing educators’ accounting knowledge and professional opportunities, enabling them to better introduce students to financial literacy, accountancy and the diverse career pathways available in the profession.

“It also supports ACCA’s broader objectives of advancing financial literacy, enhancing the attractiveness of the accounting profession, increasing awareness of the Foundations in Accountancy (FIA) pathway and developing a sustainable pipeline of future accounting and finance professionals.

“Through the initiative, participating educators pursue the ACCA Diploma in Financial and Management Accounting (RQF Level 2), strengthening their knowledge and capabilities in accounting and financial literacy,” it said. 

Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said efforts to build the country’s accounting talent pool must go beyond the existing professional workforce by inspiring and preparing the next generation.

“Our national ambition of developing 60,000 accountants by 2030 requires us to look beyond the professional workforce of today and consider how we inspire and prepare the next generation. 

“By strengthening the professional capabilities of our teachers, we also strengthen their ability to guide students towards further education and future careers in accounting, finance and business,” she said.

She said accountancy is an evolving profession increasingly connected to technology, sustainability, business strategy, entrepreneurship and decision-making, with educators playing an important role in helping students understand how classroom knowledge and skills can be applied in real-world situations.

Meanwhile, ACCA Chief Executive Helen Brand said educators were essential partners in ACCA’s efforts to advance financial literacy and develop the talent needed by employers to grow their businesses and organisations.

“Our job is to make certain that the learning and training we offer our students is relevant to the modern, changed world, where business agendas are increasingly influenced by a drive for sustainability, and by the explosion in technological capability, especially AI.

“This is why we encourage educators to help students see accountancy not as just another subject, but as a gateway to limitless career opportunities and to view the ACCA Qualification as the golden key which unlocks thrilling opportunities, not just in their own countries, but across the planet if that is where their talent and ambition leads them,” she added.

The programme was supported by TYMBA Education, ACCA’s Platinum Approved Learning Partner, which provided tuition, academic support and programme delivery for participating educators.

Its founder and Chief Executive Officer Airil Razali said the initiative demonstrates the importance of investing in educators as a means of strengthening students’ exposure to accountancy and future career opportunities.

“Beyond technical knowledge and professional exposure, we're equipping them to speak confidently about where the profession is headed - from AI and digital tools reshaping how finance work gets done, to the rising importance of sustainability reporting.

“When educators understand these shifts, they can bring that relevance into the classroom and help students see accountancy, finance and business as future-ready career choices,” he said.

The first batch of 156 educators who completed the programme were recognised at the Educator Excellence and Appreciation Ceremony 2026, themed “Empowering Educators, Shaping Futures” and will also serve as ACCA educator ambassadors to raise awareness of accountancy among students and encourage them to explore further education and career opportunities in accounting, finance and business.
