Nearly 3 Million Palestinians Eligible To Vote In November Legislative Elections

RAMALLAH, Sept 21 (Bernama-WAFA) -- The Palestinian Central Elections Commission (CEC) said Monday that about three million Palestinians in the West Bank, including Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, are eligible to vote in the legislative elections scheduled for Nov 28, Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported.

According to demographic data released by the CEC, the total number of eligible voters stands at approximately 2.97 million, including 1.24 million in the Gaza Strip, 1.59 million in the West Bank, and 140,000 Palestinian ID holders in Jerusalem.

The commission said the figures include citizens who meet the legal requirements for voting, namely those who will be at least 18 years old on election day.

The data showed that 1.57 million eligible voters are under 38, accounting for 53 per cent of the total electorate.

The CEC noted that this age group is particularly significant, as nearly two decades have passed since the last Palestinian legislative elections.

Women account for 49.9 per cent of eligible voters, compared with 50.1 per cent men, according to the CEC.

By age group, voters aged 18 to 24 account for 17.5 per cent of the electorate, those aged 25 to 35 for 30.6 per cent, those aged 36 to 45 for 20.8 per cent, those aged 46 to 55 for 14.3 per cent, and those aged over 55 for 16.8 per cent.

The CEC also said that approximately 51,000 eligible voters with disabilities are registered in the West Bank, representing 3.2 per cent of the electorate there.

Comparable data is not available for the Gaza Strip.

The commission said it would make the necessary arrangements to facilitate their participation and adapt polling centres and stations to their needs.
