Gov't Stability Anchored On Dewan Rakyat Mandate, Not Sentiments - AMK

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Malaysia has rejected calls for Parliament to be dissolved following Transport Minister Anthony Loke's offer to resign, stating that government stability is determined by the mandate and confidence of the majority in the Dewan Rakyat.

AMK vice-chief Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said calls by certain quarters for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to dissolve Parliament did not reflect the current standing of the MADANI Government.

“The stability of a government is determined by the mandate and confidence of the Dewan Rakyat majority, not by the sentiments or demands of state-level leaders. The Unity Government continues to hold that mandate.

“The dissolution of Parliament is a power provided under the Federal Constitution and should not be used as a tool for political pressure,” he said in a statement today.

Earlier, Kedah UMNO Strategic Communications Director Syed Mohd Johan Rizal issued a statement urging Anwar to dissolve Parliament after Loke offered his resignation in response to the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

However, Mohammed Taufiq said the stance taken by the DAP secretary-general should be viewed as a leader acting responsibly rather than a sign of government collapse, with the final decision subject to acceptance by the Prime Minister.

The Youth and Sports Minister also dismissed claims that the MADANI Government was “sinking”, pointing to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 6.0 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, up from 5.4 per cent in the first quarter.

“A government that is ‘sinking’ could not possibly achieve such economic growth. This demonstrates the policy stability enjoyed by the public and highly regarded by investors,” he said.

At the same time, the Sungai Petani MP said snap elections would only trigger uncertainty, derail ongoing programmes and strain national expenditure.

He noted that UMNO was also part of the Unity Government, adding that UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had previously reiterated that the party would remain with the government until the end of its term.

“The people do not need an election triggered by political drama. What the public needs is a government that continues to work, an economy that continues to strengthen and living costs managed through proper policies,” he said.
