WRUR: Over RM7.8 Mln Allocated For Home Repairs, New Houses In Melaka

ALOR GAJAH, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government, through the Melaka Housing Board (LPM), has repaired 136 houses and built 77 new ones involving more than RM7.8 million under the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme across all 28 state constituencies over the past two years.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said more than 84 projects were also implemented during the period, involving a combined allocation and assistance of RM4.2 million under the Melaka District and Land Office.

He said 2,300 recipients had also received direct assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) during the WRUR programme across the 28 state constituencies, involving a total of RM345,000.

“We also implemented 1,981 programmes and activities, recording almost 100,000 public attendances throughout the WRUR programme across all state constituencies in Melaka,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of the Melaka WRUR programme and Tanjung Bidara Beach Festival, as well as the Melaka Straits and River Arts Festival (FSSSM) 2026 here last night.

Ab Rauf, who is also the Tanjung Bidara State Assemblyman said during the period, 5,170 public complaints were received, of which 3,789 or 73.29 per cent have been resolved, while the remaining complaints will be given attention and resolved promptly.

He said that during his three years leading the Melaka government, 212 development projects worth RM41.16 million had been implemented in the constituency.

These included repair and upgrading works involving buildings, infrastructure and engineering systems at Masjid Tanah Health Clinic, costing nearly RM800,000, as well as a RM1.3 million project to install a suction tank and pump connected to the existing Tanjung Bidara tank.

A coastal erosion control project at Pengkalan Balak was also implemented, involving an allocation of RM21.5 million, he said.

Several projects are currently underway, including the RM500,000 Pasir Gembur Open Hall, an RM800,000 classroom extension using the Industrialised Building System (IBS) at Pengkalan Balak National School (SK), and a RM1.3 million roof upgrading project at Al-Jawahir Mosque, Pengkalan Balak.

“From healthcare, education, religious affairs, water supply and community facilities to protecting coastal areas, we are completing projects one by one according to the people’s priorities.

“For me, physical development alone is not enough if we do not safeguard the people’s welfare. Therefore, RM11.94 million has been channelled to 2,512 recipients as part of my responsibility to ease the burden of the people of Tanjung Bidara,” he said.
