Wushu Exponent Danish Aizad Draws Positives From Seventh-place Asian Games Finish

NAGOYA, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- National men’s wushu exponent Muhammad Danish Aizad Firdaus Chua is pleased with his performance on his Asian Games debut, despite finishing seventh in the men’s changquan event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya edition here today.

Danish Aizad, who delivered a composed performance at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall, scored 9.700 points from the judges, ending his hopes of delivering Malaysia’s first medal at the Asiad.

The Penang-born exponent said he was not overly concerned about the final result, as his focus was on delivering his best performance in an event where the outcome, he stressed, is determined by the judges.

“Today was one of my calmest performances. Asiad is a high-intensity competition, so I wasn’t expecting much. I just hoped I would not make any mistakes and could put in a good performance.

“My two months of training in China paid off. What I could control was my own performance, and I am satisfied because I was able to give my best today,” he said after the competition.

Macau’s Chi Hin Kuong won the gold medal with 9.723 points, while his teammate Song Chi Kuan (9.720 points) took silver and Indonesia’s Seraf Naro Siregar (9.720 points) settled for bronze.

The national wushu squad have set a target of two medals at the Games, which officially opened yesterday and will run until Oct 4.
