GM Klang's Fun & Freshen Up! 2.0 Rallies Community For Unity And Sustainability

KLANG, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- The spirit of unity and a shared concern for environmental sustainability took centre stage in GM Klang's Fun & Freshen Up! 2.0 programme, which brought together more than 50 volunteers from its staff, local community and strategic partners.

GM Klang chief operating officer Foo Loke Peng said the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed to keep the area around Bandar Botanic clean, vibrant and comfortable for all.

"As part of the Bandar Botanic and Klang community, we believe GM Klang's role goes beyond business. We also want to contribute directly to the environment we all share.

"We want to encourage more people to step forward and make cleanliness a culture and shared responsibility," he said after flagging off the event at Dataran GM Klang today.

Held in collaboration with the Malaysian Wholesalers Association (PPM) and supported by the Earth Warriors Association, the event was also attended by N49B Klang Royal City Council councillor Azwan Adam. 

Foo said the second edition of the programme embodies a strategic approach: keeping the environment clean should not end with a single event, but must become a sustained, everyday way of life.

Elaborating further, he said Bandar Botanic was a fitting choice, given that the rapidly developing area encompasses commercial centres, business spaces and residential zones that are constantly abuzz. 

"The presence of various segments of society, including the TSI Sports Club, at this gotong-royong programme proves that a cross-sector spirit of cooperation can deliver a significant positive impact on local wellbeing.

"In fact, this programme also aligns with preparations ahead of Malaysia Cleaning Day 2026 and Earth Warriors Day 2026, which aim to mobilise millions of Malaysians in the interest of the nation's environmental sustainability," he said.

The GM Klang management expressed its appreciation to all parties involved in the clean-up and hoped it would spark greater community involvement in the future, ensuring that Klang continues to progress alongside a clean and sustainable environment.

Meanwhile, Azwan described such joint community involvement as a vital element in ensuring that the cleanliness of target areas can be maintained on an ongoing basis.

"The cleanliness of an area is not the sole responsibility of the local authority. It requires the cooperation of all parties, including the community, business owners, private sector, associations, youth groups and even individuals who use the space," he said.
